European leaders, ready for June summit
EU leaders will focus on jobs and growth. They are expected to adopt "Europe 2020", the new strategy for jobs and growth, when they meet in Brussels on 17 June. The one-day meeting chaired by Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, will also discuss the forthcoming G 20 summit, economic governance and post-Copenhagen climate strategy.
Heads of State and Government of the 27 Member States will meet tomorrow in Brussels in a meeting chaired by Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, to take decisions about the future of European policies of growth, employment, economic governance and climate change.
The Europe 2020 strategy proposes headline targets in various fields, such as employment, research and development, education and poverty reduction. In this context, heads of state and government will also assess work on the bottlenecks that constrain growth. The European Council is to set the Union's position for the G 20 summit in Toronto on 26 and 27 June 2010, with focus on financial regulation and supervision.
At a working lunch, EU leaders will hear an interim report of the task force on economic governance working under the chairmanship of President Van Rompuy. The summit will also reassess climate change policy after the Copenhagen conference, after the meeting held in Brussels several months ago on this issue.
