EP votes for the new European Commission
After the last hearing with Kristalina Georgieva, the European Parliament will finally hold a vote to approve or reject the Commission team as a whole. It comes two weeks later than the initial prevision.
Commission President José Manuel Barroso will tomorrow formally present his team of commissioners-designate to Parliament and will debate their policy priorities, and a framework agreement on relations with Parliament, with MEPs. Parliament will then hold a vote on whether to approve or reject the Commission team as a whole.
Member states presented their nominees to be commissioner in November, and Barroso announced the portfolios responsibilities of the members of the College in the same month.
Public hearings to all the commissioner-designates started on January 11th, and they where scheduled to finish on 19 January. The withdrawal of Rumiana Jeleva postponed the end of the public hearings, and after Kristalina Georgieva's hearing, the European Parliament is now ready to hold a vote on the new commission.
