EESC studies innovation policy in Seville
On 14 January 2010, the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Commission's Seville-based Institute for Prospective Technological Studies will be holding a public hearing on the key aspects of the EU innovation policy and its concrete implementation in the region of Andalucía, Spain.
This hearing ties in with work on an European Economic and Social Committee opinion on the review of EU innovation policy requested by the European Commission. "The success of the innovation strategy that the Commission is preparing will depend primarily on the Commission's real political will to implement the policy through concrete actions, and to measure their impact and acceptance by civil society. This hearing will help us examine these issues", said Henri Malosse, rapporteur for the opinion and President of the EESC Employers' Group.
Among invited participants will be representatives of regional authorities, employers' federations, trade unions, local NGOs and SMEs. The panellists will include experts from the European institutions, and representatives of the Chamber of commerce, research centres, and stakeholders from industry, business and science. Guest participants will come from regional authorities, employers' federations, trade unions, local NGOs and SMEs.
Discussions will address two areas, the role played by innovation policy in achieving the new EU 2020 strategy's goals, and the influence of EU innovation policy on national, regional and local innovation strategies. The first debate will look at the challenging improvements required to make innovation policy more efficient. The second debate will focus on how innovation policy instruments have worked in the Spanish region of Andalucía.
The event will take place on 14 January 2010 at Joint Research Centre, European Commission, Edificio Expo - C/ Inca Garcilaso 3, and it its co organized by the European Economic and Social Committee and the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, part of the JRC.
