Luis Vives Foundation introduced the European Book 7: "Building Europe for Citizens"

Yesterday morning was held at the headquarters of the European Commission Representation in Spain the presentation of the book "Building Europe for Citizens" which was attended by the chairman of the Representation Francisco J. Fonseca, the chairman of the Luis Vives Foundation Board Oscar Alzaga and Carlos Carnero, Special Ambassador for Project within the Framework of the European Union.

The presentation of this book was the first of the "Connect the Social Europe!" events organized by the Luis Vives Foundation and the Europe Direct in order to raise awareness of the possibilities of action and influence in the European Union.

During the introductory act, Alzaga emphasized the role of the quiet but useful European Commission Representation in Spain and congratulated the President for that. Meanwhile, Carnero referred in his speech to the Lisbon Treaty, which will be submitted to referendum in Ireland next month, and noted that once approved we should not believe it is over to build Europe, but " a door would be opened to its continuation." He also defined Europe as "the most important developement and democratic space on the planet".

After these interventions, they proceeded to officially launch the European Notebook 7. It aims to collect the conclusions reached by the participants of the Consultation on Citizenship, held in Brussels last March and hopes to elucidate how the European institutions can implement its recommendations. It also provides an analysis of Eurobarometers published so far to extract the expectations of Europeans in general and the Spanish in particular as to the Union.

Some of the sponsors of the Notebook "Building Europe for Citizens" presented their chapters:

  • Vanessa Cenjor, International Affairs Department of the Fundación Luis Vives: Chapter 1, "European-wide consultations to citizenship"
  • Alicia Sorroza, a researcher at the Royal Elcano Institute: Chapter 2, "Can the European Institutions implement European recommendations on an effective way?"
  • Susana del Río, Consultant in participation and communication with citizens in the European Union: Chapter 4, "Progress, limits (with border) and challenges in the European citizen participation."

The Notebook 7 and previous tracks can be downloaded for free at the website of the Luis Vives Foundation.
