Major boost for the integration of the Roma community
The Commission has issued a call for proposals to develop the pilot project by the European Parliament that seeks to promote integration of Roma across the European Union.
The purpose of the call is to improve the pilot project of the European Parliament following a call for proposals that includes three independent separate themes corresponding to the following fields of intervention:
- Early childhood education and care (ECEC).
- Self-employment and microcredit.
- Information and awareness raising.
The pilot project will support innovative and integrated approaches to address the multidimensional problems of Roma communities. It aims to give a new approach to training and education of Roma communities, starting with preschool children through further education of young mothers up to the training and adult education.
To do so, will explore ways to improve the integration of the Roma population through education, social and economic cooperation and exchange of good practices based on past experiences.
Non-profit organizations, both NGO's and public bodies, are eligible for the call for proposals on ‘Pan-European coordination of Roma integration methods’ , which has a total budget of 5,000,000 euros. They should submit their proposals by September 25, 2009 to the Directorate General for Regional Policy of the European Commission.
