The Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht, will replace his compatriot Louis Michel at the helm of the area of Development and Humanitarian Aid of the European Commission.

After obtaining a seat in Parliament in last June elections, the Commissioner on Development and Humanitarian Aid, Louis Michel, presented his resignation on July 5.

The area Manager for Development and Humanitarian Aid will be from today was the foreign minister of the government of Belgium, Karel de Gucht, as published in the Official Journal of the European Union of July 17th.

This change is in addition to the recently produced, by which Pawel Samecki and Algirdas Gediminas Šemeta became commissioners on Regional Policy and on Financial Programming and Budget, respectively. Michel is the sixth change in the current term of Barroso, since November 2004.
