Starting signal for the European Elections

The Netherlands and the United Kingdom are the first states to hold, from today, the elections which will form a new European Parliament. From today until June 7, the 27 EU countries will host an election in which the Union and national governments have put all their efforts

Netherlands and United Kingdom are the first EU countries to choose, respectively, 25 and 72 MEPs. They begin with the European elections, in which promotion and boost all the EU institutions have worked hard. 

In recent weeks, advertisements in television, press and radio, posters, interactive choice boxes installed in various cities, website interaction, and even social networks have a fully integrated campaign with the aim of reminding the Europeans of the importance of their vote .

The chairman of the Commission, Durao Barroso, said to the Europeans that their  choice “will help shape the European Union's course of action for the next five years”.  For his part, Hans-Gert Poettering, the president of the European Parliament invited the European participation, "take a decision with their vote on the future of Europe and its future in our common Europe!"

Ireland will make their choices on Friday, June 5th, and the Czech Republic will hold the elections between Friday and Saturday. The election will be on Saturday for Cyprus, Slovakia, Latvia and Malta. Italy will also start the election day on June 6 to end the same day as the other countries of the Union: Sunday, 7. That night all Europe will know the final results of the elections.
