Five years ago, this central-european country started being part of the European Union. Now, the city of Kosice hosts the  "Five years of reaching to the stars".

The event will also be attended by EU Commissioner Ján Figeľ and members of the European Parliament.

Košice's streets will be full of interactive shows and cultural activities aimed at young people who will be able to show off their knowledge in various quizzes and competitions about the European Union, and win a lot of interesting prizes.

A central stage will belong to various performers from local fine arts schools and amateur ensembles whose shows are organised under the auspices of the city of Košice and the local higher tier territorial unit.

The celebrations will culminate in a pop music concert with such special guests as the Slovak pop star Katka Knechtová and Hrdza, Stereo and HEX rock bands. A special part of the programme will be dedicated to the opening of a "choice-box" where people can express their views on the 2009 European Parliamentary elections.
