Romania will receive up to 11M€ from EU Solidarity Fund
The Official Journal of the European Union, OJEU, has publishes on April 17th 2009, the Decision of the European Parliament and of the Council of March 11th 2009, on mobilisation of the European Union Solidarity Fund, in accordance with the Interinstitutional Agreement of May 17th 2006 between the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission on budgetary discipline and sound financial management.
Romania submitted an application to mobilise the European Union Solidarity Fund, concerning a disaster caused by floods. Following this application, the Commission examined its basis, and considered that the application met the conditions set out in Article 2 of Regulation (EC) Nº 2012/2002, therefore proposing to authorise the corresponding appropriations.
The European Parliament and the Council have decided that the European Union Solidarity Fund shall be mobilised to provide the sum of 11.785.377 Euro in commitment and payment appropriations, charged against the general budget of the European Union for the financial year 2009.
European Union Solidarity Fund
The European Union created a European Union Solidarity Fund as a means to show solidarity with the population of regions struck by disasters. According to the Interinstitutional Agreement of May 17th 2006, the Fund is allowed to mobilise funds within the annual ceiling of 1 billion Euro.
