More than 960 M€ to support Lifelong Learning
The European Commission has published in the Official Journal of the European Union on October 8tyh, 2008, a Call for Proposals for year 2009 within the Programme in the field of Lifelong Learning 2007-2013. This Call, which represents a financial support of 961 M€, embodies the sub programmes Erasmus, Comenius, Leonardo da Vinci, Grundtvig, Jean Monnet Programme and Transversal Programme.
This call for proposals is based on the decision establishing the Lifelong Learning Programme which was adopted by the European Parliament and Council on November 15th, 2006 (Decision Nº 1720/2006/EC), covering the 2007 to 2013 period. The general objective is to contribute to the development of quality lifelong learning, and to promote high performance, innovation and a European dimension in systems and practices in the field. The action programme aims in particular to develop and foster interchange, cooperation and mobility within the Community so that education and training systems become a world quality reference in accordance with the Lisbon strategy.
The Lifelong Learning Programme applies to all types and levels of education and vocational education and training and it is accessible to students, teachers, trainers and other staff involved in any aspect in life long learning, institutions and bodies providing learning opportunities, enterprises, social partners and their organisations, associations, research centres, non-profit organisations, NGOs, voluntary bodies, etc., which are established in any of the 27 MS, the EFTA-EEA countries, or candidate country Turkey.
Budget
The total budget earmarked for the Call for Proposals 2009 for Life Long Learning DG EAC/31/08 represents up to 961 M€. The level of grants awarded as well as the duration of projects vary depending on factors such as the type of project and the number of countries involved.
