Experts for the Joint Undertaking ‘Fusion for Energy

On July 4th the Commission published a Call for expression of interest for the establishment of a list of prospective individual experts to provide expertise to ‘Fusion for Energy’. The list is drawn up for a five year period from the date of publication of this call, and applications may be submitted at any time, up to the last three months of validity of the list.

Under the activities of the European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy, ‘Fusion for Energy, the Commission has published a Call for expression of interest for the establishment of a list of prospective individual experts.

Experts who will be part of this list could be called for expertise upon the following tasks:

  • Provide technical expertise related to their area of expertise.
  • Provide expertise to support the evaluation of proposals.
  • Provide expertise to support the evaluation of tenders.
  • Provide expertise to support specific design work.
  • Provide support in the evaluation of R & D results.
  • Attend meetings and provide where required advice, scientific reports or guidance documents.
  • Participate as experts in working groups.

Prospective experts are expected to have skills and knowledge appropriate to the areas of activities in which they might be asked to assist, as well as have appropriate language skills and in particular a command of the English language both written and verbal, and have a high level of professional experience in one or more of the areas of activity described in the Call.

The tasks entrusted to an expert willl involve neither the exercise of public authority nor the use of discretionary power of judgement.

The list will be valid from a period of five years from the publication of this call, and applications may be submitted at any time, up to the last 3 months of validity of the list.

Fusion for Energy

The European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy, Fusion for Energy was established by the Council of the European Union with the objective to provide Europe's contribution to the ITER International Fusion Energy Organisation as the European Domestic Agency, as well as provide Europe's contribution to the Broader Approach agreement between Euratom and Japan and as the Implementing Agency and prepare for the construction of demonstration fusion reactors (DEMO).

Established in 2007 for a period of 35 years, 'Fusion for Energy' is situated in Barcelona, Spain, and has the following Members which can be likened to “shareholders:

  • Euratom, represented by the European Commission;
  • the Member States of Euratom;
  • third countries which have concluded cooperation agreements with Euratom in fusion that associate their respective research programmes with the Euratom programmes and which have expressed their wish to become Members.
