From 25 to 30 May 2008, the JRC Institute of Energy (IE) is hosting the 13th International Symposium on Reactor Dosimetry.

About 110 participants from all over the world, from Korea and Japan to Argentina and the United States and of course many participants from Europe exchange recent information on the measuring and calculation of neutron and photon exposure in nuclear reactors. Neutrons and photons have an important influence on the degradation of reactor construction materials and therefore the life time of a nuclear power plant. Also an inventory is being made on the approach of neutron dosimetry in new generation power plants.

This conference is organised every 3 years, alternately in Europe and the United States. It has a long tradition that goes back to the strong wish for more standardisation and harmonisation on counting techniques and nuclear data used in Reactor Dosimetry, which had led in the seventies to cooperation between the European Working Group on Reactor Dosimetry and American Committee E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications. The first conference was organised in Petten by EURATOM and RCN in 1975. Thirty three years later, the conference returns to the Netherlands, hosted by the JRC Institute of Energy (IE).
