European Web Entrepreneurs of the 2013 Year are SoundCloud and SwiftKey
Alexander Ljung & Eric Wahlforss of SoundCloud are European Entrepreneurs of the Year while Jon Reynolds of SwiftKey is Young European Entrepreneur of the Year (under 30 years). The Europioneer awards are a partnership between the European Commission and The Next Web. On this occasion, 908 nominations were received from across Europe.
The European Commission announced in a statement that the Europioneer Awards, that award the European Web Entrepreneur of the Year and the Young European Entrepreneur of the Year, were granted to Alexander Ljung & Eric Wahlforss of SoundCloud and Jon Reynolds of SwiftKey respectively on the 24 April in Amsterdam. In March 2013, the European Commission also announced that the first stage of the StartUp Europe campaign was underway.
SoundCloud is a Berlin and London-based audio platform with around 40 million users, while SwiftKey is a mobile application which makes typing much easier on touchscreen devices. By understanding how words work together SwiftKey predicts the current and next word in a sentence, saving users the effort of typing each letter.
The Europioneer awards are a partnership between the European Commission and The Next Web. 908 nominations were received from across Europe. According to the Commission, the winners were selected by a distinguished panel of judges from Europe's tech and startup community.
