RegioStars 2013 awards have already their winners
The RegioStars 2013 Awards were granted by the European Commission in five categories to projects from Portugal, the UK, Poland, Germany and Lithuania which demonstrate good practice in regional development.
The 2013 RegioStars winners were announced by the European Commission. The annual RegioStars Awards are open to all EU regions to submit projects which have received investment through EU Regional Policy since 1st January 2000, and the 2014 call for entries were already announced. In the last five years the greatest number of applications have been received from Austria, Belgium, the Baltic countries and Wales.
On the category “Smart Growth”, the winner is "UPTEC – Science & Technology Park, University of Porto" from Porto. The Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto (UPTEC) develops clusters, leveraging skills between academia and local business, in sectors of innovation potential in the local economy. On the “Sustainable Growth”, the winner project ENWORKS, an environmental support service for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in the North West of England, offering training and advice in managing environmental risk, energy and water efficiency, improving waste management, and much more.
The "Individual Employment Paths" from the Warmińsko-Mazurskie region in Poland was the winner of the “Inclusive Growth” care. Specifically targeted at the long-term unemployed in the 45+ age bracket, the ‘Individual Employment Paths’ project in Elblag, Poland took a personal and health-centred approach to job seeking and job retention. With regard to the “CityStar” category the winner was the "Neighbourhood Management Berlin" project, from the city of Berlin. Neighbourhood Management Berlin (NMB) introduced governing councils in socially depressed districts of the German capital to strengthen the participation of local residents in decision-making on the selection and financing of projects to improve their quality of life. On the “Informing the public” category the winner was– “Towards Work – development of mediation services in recruiting people with hearing disabilities”, Lithuania.
