The European Entrepreneurial Region 2014 label competition is open to applications

Three EU regions will be awarded with the label 'Entrepreneurial Region of the Year 2014'. The Committee of the Regions announced that the period for submitting application to this label competition is now open until the 28 February 2013.

The Committee of the Regions encourages Europe's regions to take part in the 2014 edition of the European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) label competition before the 28 February 2013. Any European region can apply by submitting strategies for their region that encourage entrepreneurial vision. The aim of the initiative is to create dynamic, green and entrepreneurial regions throughout Europe. This label recognises forward-thinking regions aiming at promoting further entrepreneurial activity. The 2013 European Entrepreneurial Region label competition was launched in August 2011.

According to the CoR, current EER regions are continuing to drive forward the entrepreneurial spirit. Their new action plan on Entrepreneurship Education for the years to come will be presented to regional stakeholders, including those who will eventually be in charge of developing entrepreneurship awareness among various target audiences in the region.

Among the current EER regions it is Nord-Pas de Calais region in France (EER 2013) that will launch its EER year at a public event in Lille. Elsewhere, following a call for proposals by the European Commission, Southern Denmark (EER 2013), Helsinki-Uusimaa (EER 2012) and Styria (EER 2013), together with other actors, received an EU grant to create trans-European models that develop teachers' skills and provide opportunities to teach entrepreneurship and promote entrepreneurship as a career option, especially for young people across the EU. Other key themes presented by the current EER regions are internationalisation of companies and innovation and research. The CoR stressed that cooperation among the EER regions can serve to develop common projects and bring their businesses together.
