EU trio joins its melodies

Estrella Morente, Niño Josele, Márta Sebestyén and Philip Catherine are some of the nearly 40 musicians that will participate in the festival "Europe Live" (June 23-26), a musical laboratory sponsored by the Spanish EU Presidency and framed the so-called Eutrio, comprising Spain, Belgium and Hungary.

The meeting between the groups and artists from the EU trio of presidences will take place at the Royal Site of San Ildefonso (Segovia) on days 23, 24 and 25 June, where intense work and musical confrontation sessions will be developed in the two venues chosen: Casa de las Flores and Real Fábrica de Cristales. The trials will be open to the public between 19.00 and 21.00.

The artistic findings of this large meeting and cultural exchange will be shown on Saturday June 26 at the Stage Puerta del Ángel of Madrid, using a macro concert with all participating musicians, who also will be free.

  • Spain will contribute to this journey through four of the greatest exponents of popular culture: the singer Estrella Morente, flamenco guitarist Niño Josele also, Galician singer and piper Mercedes Peon, and the Castilian folk group The Musgaña.
  • Hungary, meanwhile, presents Muzsikás's voice, the singer Márta Sebestyén, the contemporary jazz group Plastic Septet and the  festival, gypsy and Balkan music of Cimbaliband, led by cimbalom Balázs Unger.
  • Belgian Music, finally, is represented by a universal jazzist, guitarist Philip Catherine, Pantha Rhei multicultural group and the female trio from the Flemish town of Kalmthout Laïs, composed of singers Jorunn Bauweraerts, Annelies Brosens and Nathalie Delcroix.

Thus, flamenco, jazz, rock, contemporary folk, traditional music, Celtic culture ... The programming of all these musicians will gather in Europa en Vivo, with the objective of stimulating joint spaces where showing the cultural diversity of Europe.

The Hungarian ambassador to Spain, Edit Bucsi-Szabó, stressed the need of sharing and contrasting the European cultures to underline the true community spirit, "thanks to initiatives such as Europa en Vivo or the exhibition 20 suits for Europe, which is having such success in Budapest that has been extended until the end of August."

Also, Europa en Vivo will collaborate with the "Solar Decathlon", the international competition solar houses to be held for the first time in Spain (June 18-27), with the assistance of seventeen international universities. This festival is also the closing of the cultural program developed by the Spanish Presidency of the EU.
