8.2 million to strengthen European citizenship

The Commission has issued a call for proposals under its "Europe for Citizens". This call aims to support and encourage civil society organizations at European level to reinforce the values of citizenship.

The call EACEA/11/09 has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union of July 13. According to this call, which implements the programme "Europe for Citizens", published in 2007 and valid until 2013, the main object is to give structural support to organizations with the objective of general European interestin the form of operating grants There are two specific objectives:

  • To foster action, debate and reflection related to European citizenship and democracy, shared values, common history and culture through the activities and cooperation of think tanks and within civil society organisations at European level.
  • To encourage interaction between citizens and civil society organisations from all participating countries, contributing to intercultural dialogue and bringing to the fore both Europe’s diversity and unity.

Activities to develop should be based on at least one of the following thematic priorities:

  • Active European Citizenship - participation and democracy in Europe.
  • Intercultural dialogue.
  • Impact of EU policies on society.
  • People's well being in Europe, employment social cohesion and sustainable development.


The budget of this call is 8,2 million Euro, and the deadline for submitting the proposals is October, 15th.
