The Commission has launched an award which aims to promote innovation in ICT that will contribute to substantial and measurable improvements in energy efficiency, and that have the potential to provide visible and convincing showcases for investment by business, citizens or both.

 The Best ICT for Energy Efficiency Project Award represents a unique opportunity for any project in the field of ICT and Energy Efficiency to increase its visibility and to compete for the grand prize. 

The competition is open to any publicly funded research and technological development projects. Both National and Regional funded projects as well as European funded projects are eligible. 

Projects wishing to participate must have a dedicated website. The wider Internet community will then be invited to rate the listed sites. Voting time will be from October 1st to December 31st 2009.

Then, a jury will select three finalists from among the highest ranked sites. The deadline is August 31st 2009. The winner will be announced at the 2010 ICT4EE Event in Brussels. 

Participating projects will be rated using the following four rating criteria:

1. Innovation
2. Societal dimension
3. European aspects
4. Website

This initiative follows the success of the 2009 High Level Event on ICT for Energy Efficiency (2009 ICT4EE).
