The Official Journal of the European Union L 287/3 has published the Council Decision of 25 September 2008 on the conclusion, on behalf of the European Community, of the United Nations Convention against Corruption

Purpuse of the convention

The purposes of this Convention as indicated in article 1 are:

1. To promote and strengthen measures to prevent and combat corruption more efficiently and effectively.
2. To promote, facilitate and support international cooperation and technical assistance in the prevention of and fight against corruption, including in asset recovery.
3. To promote integrity, accountability and proper management of public affairs and public property.

This Convention apply to the prevention, investigation and  prosecution of corruption and to the freezing, seizure, confiscation and return of the proceeds of offences  established in accordance with this Convention.
