The EC studies possible developments of Community legislation in the field of electoral matters

The Justice, Freedom and Security DG, Unit JLS/C/4 is going to develop an study in order to make possible developments of Community legislation in the field of electoral matters including possible modification of Directive 93/109/EC

The study will analyse the community legislation in the field of elections refers to elections to the European Parliament, to political parties at European level and to electoral rights in municipal and European elections granted to the citizens of the Union under Part two of EC Treaty on citizenship of the Union.

The preparatory study is intended to cover:

  1. Aspects of the principles common in all Member States for the election of the Members of the EP regulated under the 1976 Act.
  2. Certain aspects of the exercise of the right to stand as a candidate granted to the citizens of the Union who reside in a Member State of which they are not nationals.
  3. Electoral rights of citizens of the Union in regional or national elections and rules on disenfranchisement.
