Non opposition to the notified concentration between Wistron/Lite and On LCD Business

The Official Journal of the European Union published on August 12th, the Commission's non opposition to a prior notified concentration between the manufactures of consumer electronics Wistron/Lite and On LCD Business.

On June 25th 2008, the Commission received notification of a proposed concentration  by which the company Wistron Corporation would acquire control of the liquid crystal display business of Lite-On Technology  Corporation by way of purchase of assets.

The business activities of the companies involved are:

  • Wistron Corporation (Public, TPE:3231): Wistron Corporation is among the world's largest ODM companies producing ICT products. From its headquarters in Taiwan, Wistron has expanded to include operations in Asia, Europe and North America. Wistron is a engineering-based company with extensive experience in product development. Wistron provides comprehensive support for three complete lines of business in Design, Manufacturing and After-sales service.
  • Lite-On LCD Business, Lite-On Technology Corp. (Public, TPE:2301): manufacturing of liquid crystal display (LCD) /  cathode ray tube (CRT) display monitors at original equipment manufacturing  level.  Lite-On Technology is a leading provider of innovative products for both global and domestic markets, including imaging products, enclosures, power supplies and LEDs.

The acquisition concerns the market for the supply of LCD monitors. The Parties’  activities overlap to a very minor extent on the manufacturing of LCD Color TVs at  worldwide level. There are no overlaps for activities carried out by both parties in the  EEA.

The Commission therefore decided not to oppose the notified operation and to declare it compatible with the common market  and with the EEA Agreement.
