Trade and investment will be the key topics of the 3rd meeting of the Chine-EU Round Table

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the China Economic and Social Council (CESC) co-organise the 3rd Meeting of the China-EU Round Table. This Meeting will take place on 23/26 June in Beijing and will be co-chaired by Mr. Wang Zhonyu, President of the CESC and by Mr. Dimitris Dimitriadis, President of the EESC.

Two meetings already took place in 2007 and lead to open and frank discussions between the 15 EESC members and their Chinese counter-parts. Following the recommendation of the Ninth EU-China Summit (Helsinki, September 2006), the UE-China Civil Society Round Table was co-established by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the China Economic and Social Council (CESC), in June 2007 in Beijing.

On the agenda of this third meeting, two topics of primary importance for EU-China relations "Trade and Investment" and "Corporate Social Responsibility" will be in the heart of the debate relating to the negotiation of the new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.

Several other meetings have been organised in Beijing, both with European enterprises working in China and with Chinese enterprises, the China Confederation of enterprises and the Association of Women entrepreneurs. The purpose is to hear their views, in particular regarding the issues that are problematic today such as labours rights, social dumping, intellectual property rights, trade barriers.
