Broadband in Scotland — Extending Broadband Reach
On the 17th June 2008, the European Commission published notification of an Authorisation for State aid pursuant to Articles 87 and 88 of the EC Treaty Cases where the Commission raises no objections. The decision was adopted on the 30th April 2008 to execute an aid scheme in the form of a direct grant for "Extending Broadband Reach" in Scotand.
The aid scheme which is directed towards the Post and telecommunications sectors in Scotland has the objective of continuing with Regional development and Sectoral development in the country. The authorities taking charge of proceeding are the Scottish Government. Whom, acting under Section 53 of the Scotland Act 1998, will dispose of a total budget of 3.4 million pounds over almost a six year period from 1st 4 April 2008 until 31st March 2013.
