New large Spanish conglomerate in secience and technology sector
On 22nd May 2008, the Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration by which the undertakings Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (‘SEPI’, Spain), Centro de Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (‘CDTI’, Spain), Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aerospacial ‘Esteban Terradas’ (‘INTA’, Spain) and Abertis Telecom, SA (‘Abertis’, Spain) acquire joint control of the undertaking Hispasat, SA (‘Hispasat’, Spain) by way of a contract of management.
The business activities of the undertakings concerned are:
- SEPI (Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales): State-owned holding company of the Kingdom of Spain.
- CDTI (Centro de Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial): promotion of technological development and innovation for Spanish undertakings.
- INTA (Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aerospacial): is a public institution, specialized in aeronautic and aerospace research and development.
- Abertis Telecom, SA: operation of toll road and parking concessions, logistics services, telecommunications infrastructure services.
- Hispasat, SA: leading reference in the distribution of satellite television and radio channels and the transmission of digital television platformsin Europe, America and North Africa.
The Commission has invited interested third parties to submit their possible observations on the proposed operation to the Commission. Observations must reach the Commission not later than the 8th June 2008, by fax ((32-2) 296 43 01 or 296 72 44) or by post:
