EC looks for experts to be appointed members of the Scientific Committee of the EEA
The European Commission through the European Environment Agency (EEA), have organised a Call for Expressions of Interest 2008 for experts to be appointed members of the Scientific Committee of the EEA (2008/C 111/15). The experts who meet best the above criteria will be appointed for a term of four years which is renewable once for a maximum of another four-year period. Expressions of interest shall be sent via the specific on-line application form (12.00 Central European Time)
or by post not later than 30 June 2008.
The main objective of the European Environment Agency (EEA) is to support sustainable development and to help achieve significant and measurable improvement in Europe's environment through the provision of timely, targeted, relevant and reliable information to policy-making agents and the public.
The Scientific Committee (SC) assists the EEA Management Board and the Executive Director in providing scientific advice/recommendations and delivering professional opinion on any scientific matter in the areas of work undertaken by the EEA.
The below are recognised as areas of importance to be covered by the EEA Scientific Committee:
- Atmospheric processes, air pollution, climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies
- Biodiversity
- Business and environmental entrepreneurship
- Ecological economics
- Energy (incl. mitigation & adaptation strategies)
- Environmental history
- European and international environmental law
- Freshwater (incl. groundwater)
- Integrated environmental assessment and indicators
- Spatial planning and management of natural resources
- Agriculture
- Terrestrial ecosystems, incl. soils, forests, grasslands
- Modern technologies (incl. nanotechnologies, GMO, etc.)
- Transport and environment.
Apart from the characteristics mentioned above, Candidates must have:
- A university degree in a relevant scientific area, preferably at postgraduate level.
- At least 10 years' professional experience at a level to which the qualifications give admission.
- Be a national of one of the member countries of the EEA (Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey).
