The Commission presents an action plan to support entrepreneurs in Europe
The new action plan to support entrepreneurs and revolutionise entrepreneurial culture in the EU presented by the European Commission stresses the key role of education and training to nurture new generations of entrepreneurs, and includes specific measures to help budding entrepreneurs among young people, women, seniors, migrants, and the unemployed.
The European Commission underlines that Europe needs more entrepreneurs. For this reason, it has presented a new action plan that tackles obstacles to entrepreneurship such as ambitious measures to facilitate start-ups and new businesses, make transfers of business ownership more successful, improve access to finance, and give honest entrepreneurs a second chance after bankruptcy. In December 2012, the Commission already proposed to modernise the rules on cross-border business insolvency.
The Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan highlights that entrepreneurial education triggers increase of new companies. Also, the plan covers six key areas where action is needed to create an environment in which entrepreneurs can flourish and grow, and which are access to finance, support during the crucial phases of the business lifecycle, unleash new business opportunities of the digital age, easier transfers of business ownership, second chances for honest entrepreneurs after bankruptcy, and administrative simplification.
The Commission also intends to promote entrepreneurship in specific segments of the population which include women's entrepreneurial potential, senior citizens, migrant populations, and business development support for unemployed should include training, business advice and mentorship. This European institution has announced that it will now closely work with Member States, business organisations and relevant stakeholders to implement the action plan in the perspective to lead Europe out of the crisis, including a roadmap with specific targets and dates to deliver tangible results.
