The European Commission takes stock on the activities of the European Migration Network

The European Commission published on August 1 2012 its report on the activities carried out by the European Migration Network (EMN) since its creation. The report highlights the contribution made by the network to the policy-making process on asylum in migration.

In the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the creation of the European Migration Network (EMN), the European Commission has published a report evaluating the activities carried out by the network and indicating its new steps. Among the objectives set out for the coming years, the report highlights the opportunities which could arise from the increase of the synergies with other EU agencies such as Frontex or the European Asylum Support Office (EASO).

Cooperation with Frontex could help bridge the gap between border management and socio-economic considerations, bringing together a wide range of experts in different areas which are actually complementary. Furthermore, collaboration with the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) would increase the ability for both agencies to evaluate asylum related issues with different but also complementary points of view.

The European Migration Network was created to support the Commission by providing information on migration and asylum as well as to inform the general public in such matters. It has proven its worth by contributing to the Annual Report on Migration and Asylum as well as providing information to different thematic studies in areas such as economic migration and family reunification. Among his contributions are the collection of data and information, the development of specialized glossaries or to issue regular bulletins with the most recent statistics and most relevant policy development.
