The EU and China remain committed to be a good example of international cooperation

China and the UE agreed that in a changing world they share broad common interests and are increasingly interdependent. This is one of the common conclusions drawn from the 3rd EU-China High-level Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing on 9-10 July 2012.

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, and Dai Bingguo, State Councillor of the People's Republic of China met on 9-10 July 2012 at the third EU-China High-level Strategic Dialogue was held in Beijing. During the meeting, China reaffirmed its support for European integration, Europe's efforts to solve its debt crisis, and the stability of the euro zone. The EU reaffirmed its support for China's peaceful development and respect for China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. 2012 is the EU-China Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

Following the meeting, Catherine Ashton highlighted that this Dialogue has helped both to increase mutual understanding even further. It has enabled to address issues of regional and international significance to both of us. Also, she particularly welcomed the support from China in recognising that the outcome of the recent European Council was a further demonstration of the EU's firm determination that the EU will deal with the issues surrounding the sovereign debt of several Member States.

At the meeting, the EU and China decided to enhance cooperation on international issues. They will intensify dialogue on global and regional areas of interest to both sides, including regular consultations, at all levels, on foreign policy, as well as contacts between special representatives and special envoys. Besides, the two sides agreed to hold regular dialogue on defence and security policy. They stressed their willingness to strengthen cooperation in anti-piracy naval escorts.
