Launched the MEDEA Awards to encourage innovation and good practice in the use of media in education

The organisers of the MEDEA Awards have just launched 2012’s call for entries which will be opened until 17 of September. The MEDEA Awards recognise and promote innovation and good practice in the use of digital moving images and sound in education,
as well as excellence in the production and pedagogical design of media-rich learning resources.

The candidatures are now open for the 5th MEDEA Awards. Teachers, students, academics, support staff, producers and anyone who produces audiovisual media to support learning, are invited to submit applications before 17 September 2012. The aim of the MEDEA Awards is to encourage innovation and good practice in the use of media (audio, video, graphics and animation) in education. The awards also recognise and promote excellence in the production and pedagogical design of media-rich learning resources.

This year's prize will count with a Special Prize for European Collaboration in the creation of Educational Media 2012 supported by the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme and a Special Prize for Educational Media Encouraging Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 that is being organised in collaboration with the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. However the main awards are the MEDEA Award for User-Generated Educational Media 2012 and the  MEDEA Award for Professionally Produced Educational Media 2012.

An additional Special MEDEA Jury 2012 Prize may also be awarded at the discretion of the MEDEA jury. The finalists will be invited to take part in the Media & Learning Conference 2012 which will take place on 14-15 November in Brussels and which includes the MEDEA Awards Ceremony. Entry to this competition is free and prizes of hardware and/or software will be awarded along with the MEDEA Statuette and commemorative medals.
