Annual Industrial production rate keeps growing in 2010
Industrial production in the Euro area this year 2010 has grown by 8.2% and in the EU by 7.7% compared to June 2009, according to data provided by Eurostat. Referring to monthly comparative the rate has decreased 0.1% in the Euro area but has remained stable in the whole of the European Union in June 2010 compared with May 2010.
These estimates are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, reflecting the seasonally adjusted figures for total industry (excluding construction) and are based directly on the sets of the working day and seasonal rates in States members.
Monthly comparison
Among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production rose in eleven, fell in eight and remained unchanged in Slovakia. The highest increases were registered in Lithuania (+3.0%), Estonia (+2.6%), Romania and Finland (both +1.9%), and the largest decreases in the Netherlands (-3.1%), France (-1.6%) and Greece (-0.7%).
In June 2010 compared with May 2010, production of durable consumer goods dropped by 0.9% in the Euro area and by 0.8% in the EU27. On the other hand, intermediate goods decreased by 0.6% and 0.4% respectively. Also, Non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.1% in the Euro area, but grew by 0.1% in the EU27. In the field of energy increased by 0.3% in the Euro area, but decreased by 0.4% in the EU27.
Annual comparison
In terms of annual rates, industrial production rose in all the Member States for which data are available, except Greece. The highest increases were registered in Slovakia (+23.9%), Estonia (+20.7%), Finland (+14.1%) and Latvia (+13.3%), and the lowest in Spain and the United Kingdom (both +3.0%). However, given the decrease registered in monthly rates, as well as other economic indicators, recovery is still in danger as already pointed out early this year.
In June 2010 compared with June 2009, production of intermediate goods grew by 11.7% in the Euro area and by 11.2% in the EU27. In addition, capital goods increased by 8.6% in both zones. Durable consumer goods rose by 7.6% in the Euro area and by 9.0% in the EU27. Finally, energy gained 6.1% and 4.0% respectively.
