Objectives

The thematic program aims to support civil society organizations and local authorities in efforts to promote an inclusive and empowered society in order to:

  1. benefit populations out of reach of mainstream services and resources and excluded from decision-making processes,
  2. strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations and local authorities in Nicaragua to facilitate their participation in the definition and monitoring of public policies and sustainable development strategies, and
  3. facilitate interaction between the state, local governments and non-state actors in different contexts and support an increased dialogue for development.

Actions

For non-state actors (NSAs):

  • Actions aimed at rural development that will create jobs for rural youth and women, higher levels of production and productivity of small farmers through technical training of rural youth, particularly young women, and encourage opportunities for dialogue and exchanges.
  • Actions aimed at strengthening democratic and participatory governance that will focus on inducing the active participation of the larger population, the creation of a culture of democracy and transparency in decision-making processes and power management, and creating spaces for coordination.

For Local Authorities (LA):

  • Strengthen local governance at the technical, administrative and financial level and promote the development, implementation and monitoring of local public policy and land use.
  • Improve management of municipal public finances and promote transparency in budget execution, accountability and the development of initiatives to increase their own income.
  • Strengthen community participation pluralist and non-partisan civil society in the decisions and activities of the municipal authorities, in order to ensure its impact in terms of social control and auditing.
  • Promotion of decentralized cooperation (or twinning) within areas of responsibility, competence and experience of local authorities. Actions must lead to improved management of public policies, effective local governance and public service delivery.

European community funding

The Community provisional funding available for the call for proposals is:

  • 3,00 Million EUR (Orientation of the budget)
