The Commission consults on regulating about Internet on TV and TV on Internet

The European Commission adopted a Green Paper that opens a public consultation to explore what this Internet on TV and TV on Internet convergence of technology and content could mean for Europe's economic growth and innovation, cultural diversity, and consumers. In particular, the Green Paper asks whether the current approach will also be appropriate in the future.

A Green Paper published by the European Commission opens a public consultation that is seeking views on what this convergence of technology and content -Internet on TV and TV on Internet, could mean for Europe's economic growth and innovation, cultural diversity, and consumers (especially those that may need protection, such as children). The Commission announced the launching of a public consultation on Connected TV in May 2012.

The consultation, that will be opened until the end of August 2013, invites stakeholders and the wider public to share their views on how fostering the right conditions for dynamic EU businesses to deal with international (especially US) competition; how protecting European values (including media freedom) and user interests; how can we promote the right technological environment in the internal market; and other issues such as financing, and openness and media pluralism.

According to the Commission, views differ on how to respond. Some parties call for immediate changes to rules and regulations; some remain satisfied with the status quo for the time being, while others point to self and co-regulation.
