EC calls for proposals for EU-Canada Transatlantic Exchange Partnerships in higher education

The Commission will fund with more that 1.1 M€ Transatlantic Exchange Partnerships within the EU-Canada  programme for co-operation in higher education, training and youth. Applications may be submitted until April, 1st 2009.

The EU-Canada programme for co-operation in higher education, training and youth, aims to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of the European Union and Canada including broader knowledge of their languages, cultures and institutions and to improve the quality of human resources in the European Union and Canada.

Under Call for Proposals EACEA/33/08, European and Canadian consortia of higher education institutions and training institutions, “Transatlantic Exchange Partnerships” (TEP) will be able to carry out joint study and training programmes and to implement student and faculty mobility.

In assessing the overall quality of proposals, the following two award criteria will be applied:

  • The relevance of the project (30%)
  • The quality of the project design and its management arrangements (70%), according to: The project innovation and methodology, The project consortium, and Mobility criteria.

Eligible applicants, Budget and Duration of Projects

Submission of grant requests under this call is open to higher education institutions and to vocational education and training institutions, taking into account that eligible applicants must be established in one of the 27 Member States of the European Union.

Activities are planned to start between September, 1st 2009 and December, 31st 2009 and must end respectively between August, 30th 2012 and December, 31st 2012. The maximum duration of projects is 36 months.

The budget available for the co-financing of projects is estimated to be of a minimum of EUR 1,104 million. It is anticipated that approximately 8 projects will be funded in 2009. The maximum amount of funding on the EU side will be EUR 138 000 for a 3-year consortium project.

Application Deadline

Applications have to be submitted both to the EU and to Canada. The Applications on behalf of the EU Lead institution must be sent to the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency no later than April, 1st 2009.
