The JRC has conducted a series of measurements to test new braking devices in conventional cars

The Joint Research Centre has conducted a series of measurements to check the efficiency of pedestrian dummies in testing autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems in conventional cars. Conclusions show that results of the 2 frequency bands do not show significant differences. However, in the higher frequency bands, the height of the pedestrian has a clearer effect on the RCS averages observed.

The EU grants funding to four projects aimed at preparing the implementation of four Rail Freight Corridors

With a total of €5.7 million from the TEN-T Programme, the European Union will co-finance four projects aimed at preparing the implementation of four Rail Freight Corridors across Europe. According to the European Commission, the projects focus on establishing fully operational rail freight corridors providing optimal rail freight transport and increasing rail transport competitiveness across the EU.

MEPs endorsed a proposal to tone down harmful traffic noise

The European Parliament approved a proposal to protect public health through the tightening of noise limits for cars. MEPs also recommended introducing labels to inform consumers about new cars' noise levels and adding sound to hybrid and electric vehicles to alert pedestrians.

The EU will support study to evaluate new fuels for maritime transport

The European Commission announced that with almost €2 million from the TEN-T Programme, it will finance a study looking at the potential beneficial effects of using alternative fuels for port operations. Also, the EU will support with over €1.2 million from the TEN-T Programme a study aimed at identifying and addressing the potential barriers to the construction and operation of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fuelled vessels.
