An European project seeks to create an open access network for astronomical observations

The GLORIA ('Global robotic telescopes intelligent array for e-Science') project, led by Spain's Facultad de Informática of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), seeks to create an open access network for astronomical observations. In particular, the GLORIA consortium will provide amateur astronomers with the means to study astronomy using robotic telescopes or by evaluating astronomical data available in both GLORIA's and other groups' public databases.

The annual inflation up to 3% in Euro area and 3,3% in EU in September 2011

According to the data released by Eurostat in September 2011, Euro area annual inflation was 3.0%, whereas for the whole of the European Union the rate was 3.3%. Monthly inflation was 0.8% and 0.6% respectively.

€214 million of CAP expenditure from the Member States to recover by the EU

The European Commission claims back a total of €214 million of EU agricultural policy funds unduly spent by Member States under the so-called clearance of accounts procedure. Under this latest decision, funds will be recovered from Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The European Commission presented a Communication on "Industrial policy: Reinforcing competitiveness" which it states that the EU industry is in good shape and has the potential to push the European economy back to growth. The Communication looks specifically at the industrial competitiveness performance of the Member States and its conclusions show considerable differences among Member States.

The proposed EU financial framework 2014-2020, supported by the Committee of the Regions

The members of the Committee of the Regions reiterated their support for the proposed EU financial framework 2014-2020 in a plenary debate with Budget Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski. Mercedes Bresso, President of the CoR stated that the EU budget was of crucial importance to help Europe recover from the devastating effects of the economic crisis and should not be reduced under its current level.

High-level group will analyse the freedom and pluralism of the media across the EU

The European Commission presented the composition of the high-level group which has as main goal to write a report that provides recommendations for the respect, protection, support and promotion of media freedom and pluralism in Europe. The group, which will be fully independent, will be chaired by the former President of Latvia, Professor Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga.

Commission presents a draft reform of the Common Agricultural Policy after 2013

The European Commission presented on October 12 a proposal to reform the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), which endorses a new partnership between Europe and its farmers.
