The Eurovignette directive is adopted by the Council

The compromise reached in the negotiations between the European Parliament and the Council at second reading has been adopted by the Council. It means that Member States may apply an "external cost charge" on lorries, complementing the already existing infrastructure charge designed to recover the costs of construction, operation, maintenance and development of road infrastructure.

The Council adopted to extend the copyright on music recordings from 50 to 70 years

The directive extending the term of protection of the rights of performers and phonogram producers on music recordings within the EU from 50 to 70 years has been adopted by the Council. However, it has been approved with the vote against from the Belgian, Czech, Dutch, Luxembourg, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian and Swedish delegations and the Austrian and Estonian delegations were abstained.

Compared with 3.9% in June, the annual growth rate of the outstanding amount of debt securities issued by euro area residents was 3.8%. For the outstanding amount of quoted shares issued by euro area residents, the annual growth rate was 1.8% in July 2011, compared with 1.6% in June.

On the tenth anniversary of 9/11, President Van Rompuy and President José Manuel Barroso made a joint statement in which they stressed that promoting the rule of law, human rights and democratic governance, open intercultural dialogue and providing economic and educational opportunities is the best guarantee to enhance the security. The European Parliament's President, Jerzy Buzek also underlined that Europe and the United States, together with their international partners, will always stand united in the fight against terrorism of all kinds.

The European Commission promised to continue supporting Eurodyssey programme

120 representatives from 30 member regions of the Assembly of European Regions (AER) met in Italy on the occasion of Eurodyssey’s annual Forum celebrated on 8 and 9 September. During the celebration of such forum, the European Commission promised to give its support for the extension of the programme.
