Commission welcomes the agreement between Almirall and Boehringer which solves the case on misuse of the patent system

The European Commission supports the decision taken by Boehringer which is agreed to remove the alleged blocking positions, i.e. some patents regarding new treatments of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This lifts the obstacles to the launch of Almirall's products and the Commission no longer needs to pursue the case.

The Commission presents a proposal for a long-term solution on the roaming issue

The Regulation proposed would introduce structural measures to boost competition by allowing customers from 1 July 2014, if they so wish, to sign up for a cheaper mobile roaming contract, separate from their contract for national mobile services, whilst using the same phone number.

Parliament disagrees with the Council on investor compensation schemes in fraud cases

On the three proposals voted by the European Parliament, there are very significant differences between the position of the EP and, once adopted, Member States' position for the directive on investor compensation schemes. MEPs expects to continue the negotiations with the Council on the the two other proposals, one on derivatives and the other on short selling. With this aim, the final vote were postponed.

The European Parliament approved a report on Energy infrastructure priorities for 2020

In a report approved in the plenary session, MEPs asked to get “EU” status on Energy infrastructure projects. In addition, they also asked to finance them through a EU project bonds. Among the projects suggested as a priority, those which connects energy islands with the rest of the grid, reducing network losses and single supplier dependency and integrating renewable energy sources into the network.

Commission approves acquisition of CEPSA by International Petroleum Investment Company

The proposed acquisition of a controlling stake in Compañía Española de Petróleos S.A (CEPSA), a Spanish integrated oil and energy company, by International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) of Abu Dhabi has been cleared by the European Commission.

EU Member States' contribution to 2011 budget will be cut in €4.54 billion

The European Parliament approved in the plenary session the last amended budget by a large majority. On the report approved, the EU Member States' contributions to this year's budget will be cut by a total of €4.54 billion.
