The Seventh Framework Programme will be carried out to pursue the general objectives described in Article 163 of the Treaty, to strengthen industrial competitiveness and to meet the research needs of other Community policies, thereby contributing to the creation of a knowledge-based society, building on a European Research.

Supporting ‘investigator-driven’ research carried out across all fields by individual national or transnational teams in competition at the European level.

People

Strengthening, quantitatively and qualitatively, the human potential in research and technological development in Europe.

Capacities

Supporting key aspects of European research and innovation capacities such as research infrastructures.

The Seventh Framework Programme shall also support the non-nuclear direct scientific and technical actions carried out by the Joint Research Centre (‘JRC’).
