The general objectives of the programme

1. To improve information and knowledge for the development of public health.
2. To enhance the capability of responding rapidly and in a co-ordinated fashion to health threats.
3. To promote health and prevent disease through addressing health determinants across all policies and activities.

• Activities related to the monitoring and rapid reaction systems.
• Activities on health determinants.
• Activities related to legislation.
• Activities related to consultation, knowledge and information.
• Promotion of coordination at the European level of nongovernmental organisations which are developing activities defined as priorities under the programme.
