Announced the winners of the eTwinning awards for cross-border learning

The European Commission presented the winners projects of the the European Commission's 'eTwinning' competition 2012. Among the winners, there are schools from Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, France, Turkey, Spain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Greece, Romania, Portugal and Slovenia, that developed cross-border educational projects using information and communication technologies (ICT).

eTwinning awards 2012 has already been granted to six European projects. The European Commission's 'eTwinning' scheme involves more than 155,000 teachers in 31 countries who are using information and communication technologies (ICT) to set up cross-border educational projects. On this occasion, the six winning projects were selected from more than 300 submissions and are divided into three age categories.

According to the European Commission, each of the projects is an example of innovative practice in which at least two schools from different countries have been learning together in a new and creative way. Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, confirmed the Commission proposal to expand eTwinning as part of the new 'Erasmus for All' programme from 2014-2020 to make it a platform for all schools that co-operate across borders with EU support.

eTwinning, which is part of the EU's Comenius programme and receives around €10 million in funding each year, uses ICT-based support, tools and services to make it easier for schools to form partnerships in any subject area.
