Commission shows EU citizens vision on EU 2020 Strategy

The Commission has published the results of the public consultation on the EU 2020 strategy. It consists of two documents in the context of the preparation for the Europe 2020 strategy, the successor to the Lisbon strategy.

The Europe 2020 strategy will build on the successes and results obtained by the Lisbon strategy since its 2005 relaunch, which focused on growth and jobs, but also address some of its shortcomings. In this context, the Commission prepared an evaluation of the Lisbon strategy.

Furthermore, the Commission launched a public consultation on the EU 2020 strategy in November 2009, which closed on 15th January 2010. Around 1500 contributions have been received from a wide range of interested parties, and now the Commission has issued a first overview of the responses to this consultation.

The ESEC exposed its views on the direction that this strategy, and therefore, the EU, should take when the period of validity of the Lisbon Strategy expires in a paper also published in November 2009.

A more detailed analysis of the contributions is due to be issued around mid-February. All contributions will be available soon on the consultation website.
