OPEN DAYS 2009: a commitment with environment

With the United Nations summit on climate change in Copenhagen just around the corner, local and regional solutions to this environmental problem is one of the priorities of the Open Days 2009. A full track of workshops that make up this great meeting concerns about "Regions and climate change: Europe's way to sustainable regional development"

From 5 to 8 October, the seventh annual OPEN DAYS 2009 European Week of Regions and Cities will be held in Brussels, organized by the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions of the EU. Participants will come not only from Europe but also from the United States, China and India.

The Open Days 2009 will be a place for discussion about one of the mundial hottest topics of our days: climate change. A complete set of workshops and seminars will address the theme "Regions and climate change:Europe's way to sustainable regional development". This comes some weeks before the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

OPEN DAYS 2009 top priorities will be the economic crisis and the fight against climate change. Thus, 19 seminars will deal with regional strategies towarsd low carbon economies, renewable energy sources and ways of financing energy efficiency measures through EU cohesion policy.

Euroalert.net crowd will attend the academic workshop on "Regional responses to climate change", which will examine the challenges of European geographic range to meet a single answer: while 7% of the European population live in flood-prone areas, 9% live in areas where there are over 120 days a year without rain. The regional responses are key to address these differences.
