European researchers celebrate their night

Events all over Europe will take place on September 25th night because of the Researchers' night, an initiative by the European Commission that offers the public a unique opportunity to discover the world of research during one evening. This is the fifth year that researchers celebrate it.

Dozens of labs, universities, businesses, and research foundations will open their doors to anyone interested in how they work and what they do on September 25th evening. People all over Europe will be able to become a "scientist for one night", use sophisticated instruments and take part in experiments.

A huge variety of events will be held in 30 European countries: the EU27, except Ireland, Luxembourg and Hungary, plus Israel, Montenegro, Switzerland, Macedonia, Norway and Iceland. This initiative, first launched by the European Commission in 2005, has been increasingly successful. Last year 27 European countries 1.400 organisations and over 320.000 visitors took part in European Researchers' Night.

Background

European Researchers’ Night is an invitation for the public to meet researchers, learn about their work and the skills involved, and get a better understanding of what they deal with everyday in their quest to expand our knowledge and make technological progress. In Dijon (France), for example, the evening will deal on astronomy, and the University of Bologna, in Italy, is organizing diffferent kind of workshops, open-labs and even roll games.
