The European Union a pole for attraction of research and innovation through "Destination Europe"

"Destination Europe" is an initiative which includes a series of events held in different countries within and outside Europe aimed at highlighting the most attractive areas of research and innovation in the EU. It is a joint initiative between the European Union and its Member States in which they showcase their strengths in the field of research and technology transfer.

The main objective of the initiative "Destination Europe" focuses on giving researchers all around the world an opportunity to discover career opportunities that can be found in Europe and to highlight the reasons that make the European Union a pole for attraction for talent. The series of events carried out within the initiative underline the particular characteristics that each country can provide in order to contribute to researchers' professional development as well as the possibilities of finding funding sources for research projects.

Moreover, the events held in different countries have served as a way to show their unique perspective on actions taken in the field of innovation transfer. This is the case of France, where there is a wide range of programs related to innovation and technology transfer and where research laboratories have a long tradition of working with large and small companies.

Furthermore, these events have been the occasion for some other countries like Portugal to demonstrate their ability in areas such as biomedical research, information technology and communication (ICT), energy and space technology. The Destination Europe events also highlighted cases like the Irish environment for innovation. Ireland is now ranked the third in the world in immunological research, the eighth in materials research and eleventh in computer science. This has led some major fast-growth innovative companies to choose Ireland as the location to expand their businesses.
