The transparency, key point for the European regional policy communication

The responsibility of Member States and beneficiaries with regard to the European regional policy communication and transparency have been some of the points that were highlighted during the workshop "Communicating regional policy today and after 2013" held at the Open Days in Brussels.

During the workshop "Communicating regional policy today and after 2013" at the Open Days 2011, the speakers addressed issues such as information transparency or responsibility of the parties to the communication of regional policy. At the workshop, there were also presented different examples and different initiatives where finding information on European Regional Policy.

The first speaker, Peter Ficher, highlighted different aspects of the responsibility of Member States and beneficiaries of the funds. Among the points, the importance of implementing the lines of communication strategies, the use of different forms of communication or the need to maintain transparency in the process of communication. To achieve this latter point, Mr Ficher proposed accomplished three aspects: a necessary emphasis on the contents of the projects within the lists of operations, clearer definitions of data fields and the presence of XML or CSV codes at the websites

As an example of how communicating regional policy, the website of the Representation of the Commission in France "L'europe in France". This website presents specific projects or activities undertaken by the EU in the French territories. A second example showed was the portal www. eufunds.bg where citizens can find financial programs, best practices on regional policy, legislation and information on European funding. Finally, another example exhibited was www.europaomdehoek.nl. In this website there are EU project descriptions, press information, etc. According to the speaker, this initiative represents a major innovation approach and pays more attention to the media.
