Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein to facilitate its cross-border relations with the EU
The Official Journal of the European Union of July 3rd publishes the Council Decision of 30 November 2009 on the signing, on behalf of the European Community, and provisional application of the Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Iceland, the Kingdom of Norway, the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein on supplementary rules in relation to the External Borders Fund for the period 2007 to 2013.
The OJEU of July 3rd issues the signing of the Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Iceland, the Kingdom of Norway, the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein on supplementary rules in relation to the External Borders Fund for the period 2007 to 2013 (hereinafter referred to as the Agreement) and the Declarations thereto are hereby approved on behalf of the Community, subject to the conclusion of the Agreement.
The External Borders Fund funds three types of actions:
- Contributing to the enhancement of the activities organised by the consular and other services of the Member States in third countries.
- Promoting the progressive inclusion of customs, veterinary and phyto-sanitary controls in integrated border management activities in line with policy evolution.
- Providing of support services to Member States in duly substantiated emergency situations requiring urgent action at external borders.
