Belgium celebrates Europe!

On July 1st 2010 Belgium takes the floor, starting the six-months period of Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In order to celebrate this special occasion, Belgian Presidency will organize on Saturday July 3rd, the day after official opening ceremony, a unique festival to celebrate this special occasion.

On Saturday July 3rd, the day after the ceremonial opening of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, Belgium invites everyone to an unforgettable evening of entertainment throughout the country and at the heart of Brussels’ European district, including dancing, music, sound and light displays, fireworks and plenty of other surprises, involving numerous Belgian and international artists.

The formal opening of the presidency, with a concert by José van Dam, will take place on July 2nd. On Saturday July 3rd, all can come into the picture and show Europe their best dance moves. From 8 o’clock until 9.30 pm, the whole of Belgium is invited to learn a choreographed dance piece that will be performed simultaneously in twelve Belgian cities (Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Charleroi, Eupen, Ghent, Hasselt, Liege, Leuven, Louvain-la-Neuve, Namur and Tournai). A free dance lesson designed for young and old.

“I Love EU”

After 22.00 the heart of the European quarter of Brussels is “the place to be”! The European Parliament esplanade and the Place du Luxembourg will set the scene for an exceptional spectacle: I ♥ EU (read “I love you”). Party-goers will be presented with a potpourri of music, dance, fireworks, sound and light show and lots of other surprises, in the presence of many Belgian and international artists.
