Financing instrument for the promotion of democracy and human rights worldwide

description and objectives

The purpose of this call for proposals is to support the work of civil society organisations, including human rights organisations, in support of vulnerable and socially excluded groups with a particular focus on supporting the empowerment of these groups to claim their rights, including their social, economic and cultural rights.

Focal themes of CBSS for the Philippines:

1. Support to Human Rights Defenders and their families (in particular victims of and groups vulnerable to extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearance, torture and other worst forms of human rights violations)
2. Protection of the rights of children, especially those affected by or at risk of child labour, trafficking and other forms of child abuse.

actions

The following types of action are eligible (not an exhaustive list):

• Human rights awareness raising towards concrete policy changes or improved claim-making (claiming or exercising rights and freedoms) by rights-holders that are poor, socially-excluded and vulnerable, including independent media initiatives for better public accountability;
• Legal and psycho-social assistance to local human rights defenders;
• Support efforts in the field of human rights documentation and monitoring, campaigns and claim-making for issues linked to the themes above;
• Capacity building training and educational activities including gender and rights-based approaches to organizational development and management and learning exchanges between and among rights-holders and duty-bearers;
• Participatory action research or policy research or media activities as part of a wider range of public advocacy or human rights accountability activities.

Bodies or institutes must have their registered legal seat in one of the countries taking part in the Programme which are:

• Third countries

The Community provisional funding available for the call for proposals is:

• Orientation of the budget: 1.80 M€
