This call for proposals seeks to finance the Researchers' nights, which consist of events addressed to the public at large regardless of age and scientific background and aimed at:

• Bringing closer to one another general public and researchers;
• Point out the positive impact of the researchers' job in daily life of citizens;
• Promote research careers, in particular towards young people and their parents.

Researchers' nights are organised, as from 2005, on the fourth Friday of September, i.e. in 2013, the 27th September.

At overall programme level, the activities have to:

• Be likely to address and attract all age groups;
• Be likely to address and attract people regardless of the level their scientific background;
• Consist of "edutainment" (education + entertainment);
• Represent a reliable alternative to "traditional "Friday night activities.

This doesn't prevent some of the activities offered addressing more specifically specific groups (children, teenagers, teachers...), and as such, offering higher scientific content or stronger entertainment component according to the very target aimed.

Some examples based on previous experiences:

• Hands on experiments; Scientific demos; Science shows, simulations; Debates; Games; Competitions (Drawing, filming, scientific, communication, sport...; Quizzes...
• Previous experiences show that activities allowing a direct and active involvement of the public prove the most successful.(Play scientist for a night, participation in crime investigation, real digging,...);
• Activities based on hot or popular topics should also be considered, notably for their strong attractiveness (References to popular TV shows, TV series, popular characters, and magic...).

Opened to the following bodies or institutes with legal status established in the covered areas:

• Non profit organisations
• Non-governmental organization
• Universities
• Any legal organisation

Bodies or institutes must have their registered legal seat in one of the countries taking part in the Programme which are:

• European Union (EU)

The Community provisional funding available for the call for proposals is:

• Orientation of the budget: 4.00 M€
