The global objective of this Call for Proposals is to support South Africa's environmentally sustainable future, which could facilitate South Africa's resilience to climate change as well as its transition to a lower carbon economy while promoting job creation, poverty reduction and sustainable livelihoods.

The specific objective of this Call for Proposals is to support healthy ecosystems and sustainable use of natural resources in South Africa.

The priorities of this Call for Proposals are the following:

• Increasing extent, scope and impact of actions targeting healthy ecosystems and sustainable use of natural resources
• Reinforcing the water-food-energy nexus
• Employment creation and employment protection through environmentally sustainable initiatives
• Building resilient communities, especially in the most socially and environmentally vulnerable areas
• Increasing awareness about the benefits of ecosystems and sustainable use of natural resources
• Strengthening South Africa's ability to withstand and adapt to climate change
• Capacity development at local government level for improved implementation of environmentally sustainable policies

The main principles that should guide actions under this Call for Proposals are the following:

1. Integrating and scaling-up results achieved in earlier conducted demonstration/pilot projects
2. Establishing and/or implementing a replication mechanism
3. Facilitating partnerships and networking with less experienced NGOs, local authorities, social and community enterprises, business intermediaries as well as private foundations
4. Going explicitly beyond preparatory activities
5. Gender mainstreaming with the focus on women

Bodies or institutes must have their registered legal seat in one of the countries taking part in the Programme which are:

• European Union (EU)
• European Economic Area (EEA)
• Candidate Countries

The Community provisional funding available for the call for proposals is:

• Orientation of the budget: 7.20 M€
